The United Steelworkers is bargaining with the Interior Labour Relations Forest Employment Association (IFLRA) which is an employer association that represents forest companies in the province’s southern Interior. In 1967-68 the IWA fought an historic 224-day strike against IFLRA companies to establish wage parity with coastal woodworkers. Since that time, the IWA and today the Steelworkers have maintained a level playing field with IFLRA companies and other forest industry companies throughout the BC Interior. There are about 4,000 USW Local 1-405. 1-417 and 1-423 members who work for IFLRA-affiliated companies.
