The United Steelworkers is bargaining with Canfor Corp.’s Northern BC operations. There are about 1,800 USW Local 1-424 members who work for Canfor, which is the second largest lumber manufacturer in Canada, second only to West Fraser Timber. For the previous decade, Canfor was the largest producer. For many past sets of negotiations, Canfor has settled on pattern agreements based on coastal BC settlements. In 2000 the IWA Canada set a provincial bargaining pattern with Canfor North.
